The Agency The John Howard Society of Alberta is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting effective, just, and humane responses to the causes and consequences of crime. Through advocacy, community education, research, prevention initiatives, and reintegration services, we work alongside individuals, families, and communities to enhance public safety and support positive life changes. Guided by a belief in dignity, inclusion, and second chances, we help people overcome barriers, build stability, and successfully reintegrate into their communities. The Program The Community Case Management and Supervision (CCMS) program is part of the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) Alternative to Detention (ATD) framework. The primary objective of the program is to supervise individuals in the community who remain cooperative with the CBSA but who may lack a bondsperson, or who require social service support in addition to a bondsperson to mitigate risk upon release into the community. Case management principles contribute to the management of that risk through the facilitation and coordination of necessary services. Those services are documented in a supervision plan, based on a comprehensive assessment of the client’s risk and needs. This provides for appropriate monitoring to allow for the release and supervision of an individual in the community. The Position In this FTE 40 hour/week position, the CCMS Caseworker will work in an integrated and collaborative way to provide supervisory and referrals services, guidance, and empowerment for self-management within the community. Serves as moral support for individuals who are released from detention based on the case manager’s assessment. This is balanced with the understanding of the legal and immigration conditions of release imposed that allow such individuals to participate in the program.
