Engineering Manager (FX Risk Management) Malaga Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home Role Summary Ebury is a global fintech, headquartered in London. We help businesses move money across borders — FX, payments, and lending — in 140+ currencies, sending payments to 160+ countries across 30+ regulated markets, delivered by 2,000+ experts in 40+ offices worldwide and backed by Santander. We've set ourselves a deliberately hard bar: beat the best digital-first experience in our market, not merely match the incumbents. As an Engineering Manager in our Málaga hub, your mission is to build and lead the teams that build the best client risk management application in the market. This role focuses on client risk management, which helps clients understand, manage and reduce their exposure to foreign exchange risk. The domain builds products and capabilities that enable clients to identify their currency exposure, define appropriate risk management strategies, and protect their businesses against adverse currency movements through hedging solutions. Why This Role is Different - Own Client Outcomes: Take real client problems end-to-end, owning experience, APIs, data, and iteration with full trust and autonomy. - Player-Coach Early, Leader Always: Stay close to code early on (pairing, reviewing, shipping) and transition leverage into building people and systems as the team grows. - Platform-First Thinking: Build scalable, generalisable platforms rather than bespoke one-offs. Value retiring technical debt and flags as much as shipping features. - AI-Native Culture: Fluent in AI tools as force multipliers, guiding the team on effective adoption and designing AI into the product. Key Responsibilities - Build & Grow the Team: Own hiring end-to-end, setting high standards. Coach engineers through actionable feedback, clear growth paths, and performance management. - Delivery Ownership: Translate ambiguous business outcomes into clear roadmaps. Sequence work, manage risk, and deliver reliably at a sustainable pace. - Technical Leadership: Guide architecture and design reviews for high-scale, event-driven transactional systems on AWS and BigQuery. - Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner closely with Product and Design to shape customer solutions and influence strategic trade-offs. - Operational Health: Ensure production-grade stability, humane on-call loads, testing standards, CI/CD, and strong observability. - Responsible AI Adoption: Integrate AI tools into development workflows safely and effectively while maintaining complete ownership of shipped code. What We're Looking For - Engineering Leadership: Proven experience managing and developing software engineering teams with a track record of mentorship and high delivery standards. - Technical Depth: Solid CS foundation with hands-on credibility building/operating distributed systems at scale (AWS, event-driven architecture, APIs). - Hiring Instincts: Ability to define an interview bar, run rigorous hiring processes, and close exceptional talent from scratch. - AI Fluency: Hands-on usage of AI coding tools and strong opinions on how teams best leverage AI for productivity and product capabilities. - Product & Quality Mindset: Focus on client value, pragmatic scoping, and high discipline around money-movement systems (idempotency, reconciliation). - Communication: Fluency in English with exceptional ability to articulate complex technical ideas and align cross-functional teams. - Nice to Have: Fintech/payments/regulated domain experience, or web & mobile channel exposure. What We Offer - Competitive Package: Strong base salary, performance-based bonus, and comprehensive benefits tailored to a senior leadership role. - Career Progression: Clear leadership paths, senior mentorship, and room to grow across technical and organizational domains. - Premium Equipment: High-end MacBook Pro or equivalent Linux hardware. - Collaborative Culture: An inclusive, high-performing environment rewarding technical excellence, decision-making, and constructive challenge. - Hub Leadership: As a member of our Málaga engineering hub, you will have the unique opportunity to help shape the office's culture, talent density, and engineering standards from day one. The Hiring Process We run a fast, respectful 4-stage process (typically completing final interviews within a week and decisions within 48 hours): 1. Intro Chat (~30 min): Initial conversation about you, Ebury, and the role. 2. Hiring Manager Interview (~30 min): Deep dive into your experience and the role expectation. 3. Technical & Systems Design (~60 min): Coding test and collaborative design session with engineering leaders on a real-world system problem. 4. Hiring Manager & Product Leader (~60 min): Discussion on problem-solving, product focus, team leadership, and long-term career acceleration. #LI-AT1 About us Ebury delivers sophisticated, integrated solutions — business accounts, hedging, and financing — on a single platform with a seamless workflow.
