Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses. You'll be joining Relay's Accounting Operations team — the engine behind the financial accuracy that powers everything we do. Our mission is to build a finance function that's fast, clean, and scalable as Relay continues to grow. As our Intermediate Accountant, you'll own the day-to-day accounting operations that keep us audit-ready, month-end sharp, and increasingly automated — turning transactional work into a foundation for smarter financial decision-making across the company. What You'll Be Doing - Own and automate AP cycle: The AP process is yours to improve - own the full AP cycle to identify manual touch points and drive automation implementation as a result. - Support month-end close: Partner with the finance team to ensure records are accurate, timely, and ready for reporting — including owning bank reconciliations, adjusting journals, accruals, and variance analysis. - Shape spend policy and credit card management: Help build and enforce company-wide spend policy and manage the corporate credit card program — real ownership of a function that touches the entire business - Support year-end audit preparation: Own your areas of the audit file — prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and documentation - Drive controls and process improvement: You'll actively contribute to building and strengthening internal controls, documenting processes, and identifying gaps — helping the finance function scale with the business. - Build cross-functional relationships: Work with stakeholders across the business to understand vendor ownership, flag budget concerns, and keep finance processes running smoothly. - Drive automation and efficiency: You won't just execute — you'll be expected to think critically about how we do things and actively look for ways to make it better using AI and automation tools. - Maintain data integrity: Ensure all financial entries and reconciliations meet US GAAP standards and are audit-ready at all times. - Roll up your sleeves on ad hoc projects: Finance moves fast — you'll be pulled into special projects, process improvements, and one-off analyses as the business grows and needs arise. Who You Are - 1.5+ years of accounting experience in a professional setting — someone who has already rolled up their sleeves and done the work. - CPA or actively pursuing your CPA designation — this is a near-requirement. We want someone building toward the credential, not just executing tasks. - Comfortable with AP and month-end workflows — you've had experience with these before and can hit the ground running. We use Rillet as our accounting ERP. - AI-forward mindset — you're curious about automation, not intimidated by it. You may not have built workflows yet, but you're eager to. - Strong cross-functional communicator — you can work with people outside of finance, manage vendor relationships, and represent the finance team professionally. - Tech-savvy — experience in a tech environment is a plus; familiarity with US GAAP is an asset. The Interview Process - Stage 1: A 45-minute Google Meet video call with a member of the hiring team - Stage 2: A take-home case study followed by a 60-minute Google Meet video call with our team - Stage 3: A 30-minute chat with our CFO - Stage 4: A 45-minute in-person interview with a member of the Leadership team Our Compensation Approach We believe Relayers should feel rewarded for the impact they have on our mission and growth. Compensation follows impact. As impact increases, compensation grows, and we do not limit compensation changes to a once-a-year review cycle. The annual salary range for this role is $68,400 - $83,600 CAD. For candidates who demonstrate full readiness for the defined scope of the role, the typical starting salary is $76,000 CAD. Offers below this point reflect candidates we believe can grow into the full scope of the role with support and development. Offers above this point reflect impact that meaningfully exceeds the role’s defined expectations or an expanded scope from day one. We encourage you to have a conversation with your recruiter and ask questions about compensation throughout the hiring process. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself. - You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook. You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward. - You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement. - Small businesses are why we're here: Relay exists to help them thrive -- and that mission has to resonate with you.
