Hybrid with travel to Bath, London and Edinburgh a couple times a month ABOUT US Seccl is the Octopus-owned embedded investment platform, on a mission to help more people invest, and invest well. We’re building the infrastructure behind the next generation of investing. Our technology already powers some of the UK’s most ambitious fintechs, banks, financial advisers and wealth firms, with close to a million investors relying on Seccl-powered platforms. And we’re now expanding into Europe. We’ve got a proven product, strong momentum and big ambitions for what comes next: helping more household-name brands launch and scale investment propositions, entering new markets and replacing outdated investment infrastructure with technology that’s faster, simpler and built for scale. We’re proud to be part of Octopus, one of the UK’s most successful privately held investment and technology groups. That gives us the backing and long-term perspective to build something substantial, while keeping the pace and energy of a high-growth business. Seccl and Octopus are both B Corp certified and share a belief that profit and purpose should go hand in hand. If you want to help shape the future of investing in the UK and across Europe, you’ll be in good company. THE ROLE We're looking for a Platform engineer to shape and evolve the platform that underpins our investment products. You’ll be someone who loves understanding engineering problems and enabling teams to self-serve their needs. You view the cloud platform as a product, and engineering as your customer. The role is within our Cloud Resilience team - a critical squad within our engineering organisation responsible for empowering squads to build and run their own services. We’re primarily in AWS, utilising Lambda, ECS, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway, Aurora, Redshift among others. Our main data store is MongoDB Atlas and our observability platform is Datadog. Our application is written in Typescript/NodeJS and our infrastructure is defined in Terraform. ON A TYPICAL DAY YOU WILL BE… - Architecting, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure infrastructure in AWS using Terraform. - Designing cloud-native solutions using MongoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, and other AWS services with a strong focus on serverless. - Contributing to incident response efforts, production readiness, and reliability initiatives across engineering squads. - Enhancing observability and platform insight through actionable alerting and data visibility using Datadog. - Continuously improving CI/CD processes with GitHub Actions, reducing friction in delivery pipelines. - Collaborating with software engineers (working in Node.js/TypeScript) to ensure secure, performant, and resilient applications. - Mentoring engineers and champion DevOps culture and best practices across teams. THIS ROLE’S FOR YOU IF... - You’re a pragmatic platform engineer with experience in regulated environments, balancing delivery with compliance and operational excellence. - You’re confident working with JavaScript/TypeScript-based applications and collaborating closely with development teams. - You know what “good” looks like for databases like MongoDB and Postgres and can diagnose, design, and optimise for scale and resilience. - You care deeply about observability - you don’t just monitor systems, you build alerts that engineers can act on. - You’re fluent in AWS best practices, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and CI/CD tooling like GitHub Actions. - You’ve had exposure to architectural decisions and willingness to own of platform-level outcomes. THIS ROLE ISN’T FOR YOU IF... - You rely on a lot of top-down direction. Here, you’ll have a lot of freedom and ownership of your role, and you’ll be expected to shape your own progression - You’re not comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Our speed and scalability are what set us apart; you need to be able to act quickly and think on your feet - You struggle to follow through on ideas. We value people who do what they say they will. If you care about something, you have the freedom here to make it happen - You don’t like change. You’ll get on great here if you relish the ambiguity of rapid growth and are willing to embrace uncertainty WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU… We offer a generous mix of benefits for the things that really matter to our people, including: 💰 A salary between £55,000 and £75,000 – dependant on experience + reviewed annually 🌴 27 days holiday + bank holidays (some can be flexible) + day off on your birthday + three days (full time) per year for Dependant leave 💙 Two volunteering days per year 🌎 Option to work abroad for up to six weeks a year 🌟 Secclbrate - our recognition programme that offers a mix of flexible rewards including extra pay, additional holiday and increased learning budget 🏅 Length of service award – one month paid sabbatical at eight years ✅ 6% employer pension contribution, and life assurance 🏥 Private medical insurance with AXA Health 👪 Enhanced Parental leave 💻 MacBook and up to £500 home office set up budget 📖 £750 per person learning budget 🌻 Health and wellbeing initiatives including free therapy via Wellness Cloud, mental health support via Headspace 🌱 Strong financial wellbeing focus including access to Octopus Money https://octopusmoney.com/, Octopus Share Incentive Plan and will writing offering via Octopus Legacy 🎁 Perkbox https://www.perkbox.com/uk – Flexi-points giving you a range of discounts and perks including free weekly coffee, gym and retail discounts 🚲 Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work and Octopus Electric Vehicle Leasing OUR CULTURE We're proud to put people first, creating a culture where we truly listen to what matters most to them.
