ABOUT COEFFICIENT GIVING Coefficient Giving (formerly Open Philanthropy https://coefficientgiving.org/research/open-philanthropy-is-now-coefficient-giving/) is a philanthropic funder and advisor. We work with a range of donors who share our commitment https://coefficientgiving.org/our-approach/ to cost-effective, high-impact giving. Our current funds include Science and Global Health R&D https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/science-and-global-health-rd/, Navigating Transformative AI https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/navigating-transformative-ai/, Biosecurity & Pandemic Preparedness https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/biosecurity-pandemic-preparedness/, Abundance & Growth https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/abundance-and-growth/, Farm Animal Welfare https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/farm-animal-welfare/, and more https://coefficientgiving.org/funds/. We’re proud of our track record: - We jump-started the field of AI safety and security https://coefficientgiving.org/research/ai-program-update-navigating-transformative-ai/ and have played a vital role in addressing other existential threats, such as mirror bacteria https://www.mbdialogues.org/. - Our grants to evidence-backed global health programs have saved over 100,000 lives, and our farm animal welfare grants have improved the lives of over 3 billion animals. - We supported late-stage clinical trials for the R21 malaria vaccine, now being scaled to protect millions of kids globally https://www.nature.com/articles/d44148-025-00245-8#:~:text=Uganda%20is%20at%20the%20forefront,M%20vaccine%20to%20105%20districts.. - We were the earliest major funder of the YIMBY movement to build more housing. Our grantees have led the charge on major wins like City of Yes https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2024/12/mayor-adams-governor-hochul-speaker-adams-celebrates-passage-most-pro-housing-proposal-in in New York, and SB 79 https://www.gov.ca.gov/2025/10/10/governor-newsom-builds-on-this-years-historic-housing-reforms-signs-legislation-to-accelerate-housing-and-affordability/ in California, which will enable hundreds of thousands of new housing units. Since 2014, we’ve directed over $7 billion in grants as part of our mission to help others as much as we can with the resources available to us. It's also a pivotal moment for Coefficient Giving: we gave around $1 billion last year, and are on track to more than double our giving this year. We're significantly scaling our grantmaking and rapidly growing our team to support it, in part because we expect to see large increases in philanthropic funding flowing into the fields where we work in the coming years. Accelerating now lets us fill cost-effective gaps today, and helps lay the groundwork for new donors to step in as well. Growth at this pace means the work is fast, ambiguous, and often messy: we need to make big decisions, pivot quickly, and make trade-offs. We think this is a uniquely high-leverage moment, and we're looking for people who find that energizing. ABOUT THE SALESFORCE TEAM Our Salesforce team builds and maintains the systems that power CG's grantmaking and partnerships operations. Salesforce is our system of record, but it sits within a broader ecosystem of tools — such as Airtable, data pipelines, form tools like FormAssembly and Fillout, and integrations like Ironclad — that together support how grants move from decision through payment. Our org supports over 230 active users, including CG staff and external users. While our record volume is relatively low, our work tends to be high-touch and high-complexity, with heavy customization and a deliberately code-first build. The Salesforce team acts as internal consultants to many teams at CG. We care about understanding the problem as much as we do building the solution, and we're always looking for ways to remove friction, improve data quality, and make our systems more useful to the people who rely on them. ABOUT THE ROLE We’re looking for an experienced Senior Architect or Architect who can hold design authority over a heavily customized Salesforce org and the integrations around it. This is a hands-on, builder role that requires experience in Apex and Lightning Web Components and familiarity with the DevOps practices that get changes safely to production. You would join a growing Salesforce team — spanning Eastern, Central, and Brasília time — that meets daily and works closely together. You would partner closely with our existing senior technical lead on the technical direction of the system. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, though you would be expected to provide technical oversight and mentorship across the team. There's room in this role to specialize — we’re actively re-architecting how money moves through the system end-to-end, and ensuring our Partnerships work is reflected in Salesforce would be a natural focus for this role. WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES SALESFORCE ARCHITECTURE - Design and build complex Salesforce solutions using Apex and Lightning Web Components with expert understanding of platform capabilities and limitations, and produce durable technical deliverables such as architecture documentation the team can work from. - Write SOQL against a custom object model representing the full path money takes through the system, from donor contributions through budgets and allocations to outgoing grants. - Make informed decisions on solution trade-offs, considering factors such as scalability, maintainability, user experience — and increasingly, where a process lives across our ecosystem of systems and integrations. - Translate business needs into technical specifications and solution design, often for work touching multiple systems and teams. - Predict what could go wrong as we scale and adopt new technology — problems like platform and API limits, integration failure modes, data integrity — and work to prevent it rather than react to it. - Take a lead role in system security and data compliance, including our sharing and permissions model and field history tracking. - Evaluate, recommend, implement, and manage Salesforce features and third-party tools. TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP AND TEAM ENABLEMENT - Partner with our existing senior technical lead on the technical direction of the system, contributing your own architectural perspective while building a shared view of how the system should evolve. - Mentor team members on technical skills, review technical work, and contribute to team enablement, raising the technical bar across the team. - Help oversee the team's user support function and resolve escalated cases, staying close enough to user friction that it informs your design decisions. - Evaluate and assess Salesforce platform changes — new features, deprecations, and security requirements like enhanced MFA — and assess what each one means for our org, our integrations, and our users. DEVOPS AND DELIVERY - Implement and advocate for DevOps best practices, including sandbox-to-production deployment pipelines (we use Gearset) and IDE-based workflows (IntelliJ + Illuminated Cloud). - Serve as the team’s release manager, or mentor members of the admin team to serve in this capacity. - Contribute to and help shape the team's approach to AI-enabled development workflows — we've built an in-house Salesforce MCP and are iterating on how AI tools integrate into our development and stakeholder-facing processes. YOU MIGHT WORK ON - Designing architecture for custom budget allocations that allow our grantmaking to be analyzed across multiple dimensions. - Creating a flexible and easy-to-update tagging engine for our grants that allows for robust reporting, which may vary from program to program. - Improving our existing code base and refactoring existing code. - Maintaining and improving Lightning Web Components that are being implemented with our Data Model Redesign project, which will help users move and track funds through donor contributions, budgets, and outgoing grants. - Designing integration patterns for our expanding partnerships work: deciding where new funding-partner data enters the system, how it connects to existing grant records, and how external-user access is governed. - Exploring a potential build of a grantee portal on Experience Cloud. WHO MIGHT BE A GOOD FIT We are looking for someone with extensive experience in Salesforce administration and development, with a strong background in solution architecture, implementations, and data migrations. A successful candidate will also demonstrate most of these qualities: - Deep, current, code-first development experience: ~5+ years of hands-on Salesforce development with ownership and delivery of Apex, SOQL, and Lightning Web Components (likely ~7+ years at the Senior Architect level). Recent, substantive Lightning Web Components buildout experience will be especially important within this role. You should be comfortable defaulting to custom Apex. - Expert-level platform knowledge: You know Salesforce's capabilities and limitations deeply, and you apply established design patterns rather than reinventing them. - Design authority in a complex org: You've run complex projects end-to-end in environments with significant business process complexity. - Cross-system judgment and flexibility: You're comfortable making architecture decisions that span Salesforce and the tools around it, and you don’t default to specific tools. Our team caters to many stakeholders with different preferences and processes, and we need to be flexible: Sometimes, this means abandoning good ideas and project progress in response to new organizational needs! - DevOps fluency: You've implemented and led DevOps in a Salesforce context, including sandbox-to-production deployment and pipeline tooling like Gearset. - Comfort as a technical thought partner, not the sole decision-maker: You are able to make large technical calls independently, but are equally comfortable deferring where it makes sense and would enjoy mentoring more junior colleagues. - High ownership in a fast-building environment: You drive ambitious, under-scoped work to completion and make tradeoff recommendations rather than waiting for perfectly scoped requirements. Priorities shift, and you can rebalance across concurrent projects. - Strong stakeholder management: You work comfortably with people of varying technical fluency across teams like Operations and Programs and can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Our team acts as internal consultants to many teams at CG. - Experience with, or strong openness to, AI-enabled workflows: You are excited to contribute to our recently implemented Salesforce MCP and iterate quickly on it and surrounding workflows. - Salesforce certified: Salesforce Certified Administrator (ADM-201) and Platform Developer I (PD1). Desirable, but not required: - Additional certifications: Platform Developer II (PD2), or any architect-level certification (e.g. Sharing and Visibility Architect, Data Architect, or Development Lifecycle and Deployment Architect). - Breadth of exposure: You've seen how different teams, stakeholders, or organizations solve similar problems, whether that comes from consulting across multiple orgs or from working extensively in-house at a complex organization with many internal stakeholders and varied processes. Ideally, you’ve had experience in the mission-driven, philanthropic, and/or nonprofit space. - Integration experience: Third-party integration experience, especially with systems in our stack (Airtable, Zapier, FormAssembly, Fillout, Ironclad, and our BigQuery-based data infrastructure). We expect all our staff to: - Put our mission first, and act with urgency to help us realize our ambitious goals. - Work to model our operating values https://coefficientgiving.org/our-approach/operating-values/ of ownership, openness, calibration, and inclusiveness. The ideal candidate for this position will possess many of the skills and experiences described above. However, there is no such thing as a "perfect" candidate. Above all, we are looking for people motivated to contribute to our mission of helping others as much as we can with the resources available to us. Whatever your background, please apply if this role would make you excited to come to work every day. ROLE DETAILS & BENEFITS - Position type: This is a full-time position. - Compensation: The baseline starting compensation for this role is $184,000, which would be distributed as a base salary of $160,000 and an unconditional 401(k) grant of $24,000 for U.S. hires. - These compensation figures assume a remote location; there would be upward geographic adjustments for candidates willing to work from our San Francisco or Washington, D.C. offices at least two days per week. There would also be an adjustment upwards for candidates based in New York who are willing to work from our coworking hub at least one day per week. - All compensation will be distributed in the form of take-home salary for internationally based hires. - We aim to pay competitively enough to make salary unlikely to be a major consideration for candidates who would otherwise be interested in taking this role. If concern about compensation is keeping you from applying, we encourage you to reach out to jobs@coefficientgiving.org. - Time zones and location: You can work remotely. While we are unable to sponsor visas for this role, we are open to hires outside the U.S. Our Salesforce team spans Eastern, Central, and Brasília time and meets daily. This role requires at least 3-4 hours of daily overlap with U.S. Eastern time. - Start date: We expect to make offers by December, and hope new hires can start as soon as possible after receiving an offer. If this timeline doesn’t work for you, please err on the side of applying anyway and let us know in your application in case we can make alternate arrangements. - Benefits: Our benefits package includes: - Excellent health insurance (we cover 100% of premiums within the U.S. for you and any eligible dependents) and an employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement for certain other personal health expenses. - Dental, vision, and life insurance for you and your family. - Four weeks of PTO recommended per year. - Four months of fully paid family leave. - A generous and flexible expense policy — we encourage staff to expense the ergonomic equipment, software, and other services that they need to stay healthy and productive. This policy also includes a productivity benefit, which provides a set amount for staff to expense items that enhance their productivity. - A continual learning policy that encourages staff to spend time on professional development with related expenses covered. - Support for remote work — we’ll co
