Who we are Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 120 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado. Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world. Why Marvel Fusion By joining us, you will be: - Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth - Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy - Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion - Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default Your responsibilities - Initiate and develop an R&D stream focused on fuel and fusible materials integration into experimental targets for in-house use. - Translate experimental requirements into reproducible fabrication processes, including scale-up of deposition and micro-fabrication techniques for target component integration. - Characterization and metrology of fabricated components, to verify specifications are met. - Coordinating multi-partner consortia and associated reporting: build and maintain collaborations with academic and industrial partners. - Drafting of public funding applications. - Mentor junior scientists and coordinate cross-functional teams. - Documentation and reporting: write and oversee technical and safety documentation, protocols development, and contribute to internal, external, and funding-body reports. What you bring - 8+ years of experience in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field, with demonstrated seniority in an R&D environment. - Hands-on experience with several of the following fabrication techniques, and working knowledge of the rest: - Deposition techniques and material synthesis (e.g. CVD, MLD, ALD, PLD, sputter-coating, e-beam and thermal evaporation, spray-coating, spin-coating, electrodeposition). - Laser cutting or machining using picosecond and/or femtosecond laser systems. - Additive manufacturing techniques. - Molding, hot pressing. - Hands-on experience with several of the following characterization and metrology techniques, and working knowledge of the rest, applied to fabricated components to verify specifications are met: atomic force microscopy (AFM), profilometry, ellipsometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). - Practical experience working with processes under inert atmosphere for sensitive or reactive materials. - Experience working in ISO-classified cleanroom environments. - A track record leading or contributing to multi-partner research or industrial collaborations. - Experience leading or contributing to public funding applications, with a track record of awarded proposals. - Providing technical leadership and mentoring junior scientists and engineers in an experimental environment with evolving priorities. - Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical writing for proposals and reports. What sets you apart - Familiarity with lab automation and the development of novel fabrication processes. - Experience with novel or exotic materials relevant to fusion targets (e.g., aerogels, foams, deuterated polymers). - Experience in fusion, plasma physics, inertial confinement fusion (ICF), or energy systems. What we offer Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth: - Public Transport Subsidy - Employee Incentive Program - Phone Bill Reimbursement - Wellpass or Complimentary Private Health Insurance - Professional Learning & Development Budget - Relocation Support - Company Pension Plan - 30 Days of Vacation plus additional half day on 24. & 31.Dec. - Modern Office in the center of Munich - Healthy office snacks - Regular Team Events For more information on how we process your application data, please review our privacy notice.
