Parking without barriers, tickets or queues. Wemolo builds its own hardware and its own AI to make that happen. More than 7,000 of our scanners run on around 4,000 parking sites across Europe and have processed over 1.3 billion parking events: unattended, outdoors, around the clock. As Senior IoT Engineer (all genders), you join our Devices team and bridge both worlds: you own our Yocto-based Linux software platform and actively build the Python application services running on top of it. Python is your daily driver, but you go down to C/C++, drivers, and the kernel whenever hardware requires it. Neither pure BSP-only engineers nor high-level-only developers will be happy here - this is a true hybrid hands-on role. Right now, we are building a new generalized Linux based platform for our next-generation hardware, harmonizing the software across all device types and making fleet health visible in real time. You do this in a profitable Munich scale-up with more than 250 people in five European locations: the pace of a fast-growing company and the stability to build things properly. As we are looking for a hands-on developer, a live coding session is an integral part of our interview process. WHAT TO EXPECT - Next-Gen OS Image: Design and build our new Yocto-based Linux image for the next hardware generation, and drive the migration of our fleet onto it. - Hardware Abstraction: Harmonize the software across scanners, payment terminals and screens into one maintainable codebase. - Fleet Updates: Design OS and application updates that never brick a device: A/B partitions, staged rollouts and clean versioning across hardware variants. - Fleet Observability: Build monitoring that shows the health of every device in real time, from memory leaks to network stability and hardware metrics. - Debugging: Find root causes across kernel, drivers, networking, memory and application code, on devices hundreds of kilometers away. - Technical Guidance: Bring senior judgment into architecture discussions with our IoT Platform, Backend and AI teams, document decisions and mentor engineers. INSPIRE US BY - Embedded Linux Expertise: Hands-on experience building and maintaining embedded Linux products that are deployed in the field, ideally at fleet scale, and confidence working with Linux internals, GNU tools, and Bash - Background: Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent practical experience - Yocto Experience: Proven experience building, customizing, and maintaining Linux images using Yocto - Python Development: Strong Python skills – Python will be your primary development language in this role - Systems Programming: Strong programming skills in at least one systems language such as C++, Rust, Go, or Java - Operating System & Debugging: Solid understanding of Linux internals, bootloaders, systemd, drivers, kernel concepts, networking, and Docker, plus hands-on experience with debugging tools such as GDB, tcpdump, Valgrind, UART, and JTAG - Senior Mindset: You clarify requirements before designing a solution, consider the impact on other teams, and are comfortable making and defending technical decisions - Communication: You explain complex technical topics clearly and in a structured way, in fluent English (C1) EXTRA POINTS FOR - Experience operating large-scale IoT fleets - Knowledge of industrial hardware, cameras, AI accelerators, modems, or network devices - Experience with computer vision, edge AI, or machine learning - Familiarity with MQTT and Protocol Buffers (ProtoBuf) - German language skills WHAT WE OFFER - Flexibility & Responsibility: Your workday, your performance – Our hybrid model empowers you to focus from home, get fresh perspectives during workation, and connect in person during our Anchor Days (Tuesday to Thursday) - Tailored Mobility: Full speed ahead – Whether it’s sustainable bike leasing or a public transport subsidy, we keep you flexible and on the move - Measurable goals: Our agile methods allow you to directly measure your impact on our product and company success - Team Culture & Networking: Real connections – also beyond the day-to-day. Celebrate successes with us at legendary team events and OKR parties - Productive Environment: Brainfood deluxe – Whether it's portafilter coffee, Bella&Bona online cafeteria, fresh fruit or our muesli bar – your wellbeing fuels your performance - Health & Balance: Stay in balance with EGYM Wellpass or Urban Sports Club – access 1,000+ gyms and wellness spots across Germany - Top Equipment & Ergonomics: Mac or Windows, in the office or remote – we make sure you’re set up for efficiency and comfort - Dress Code? Your Code: What you do matters more than what you wear – dress in whatever makes you feel your best INNOVATION THROUGH DIVERSITY Regardless of your background, origin, gender identity, or individual circumstances, it's your personality that interests us. That's why we're committed to building a culture of collaboration and respect, where every team member has a voice, can grow, and feels valued with us. STILL HERE? Then we might be the perfect match! Ready to own (y)our growth? 🚀
